NEW YEARS DAY 2009

On 1-1-09 our New Years Day Dive took place in Leybourne Lakes - our usual inland open water training site. A small crowd gathered to cheer on the intrepid dozen or so brave club members keeping the New Years Day dive tradition alive. Air temperature was 1 deg C, water was 4 deg C - but it felt worse than that
(said the intrepid few) ! Fortunately we all survived and enjoyed a glass of harmless lemonade at a nearby pub afterwards

Dont try this at home !

A spot of quiet meditation.

Fine tuning buoyancy to reach that state of nirvana so unique to our New Year Dives.

LANZAROTE November 2008

Members of the NWK BSAC recently spent a week diving with Safari Diving in
Puerto del Carmen in Lanzarote. Puerto del Carmen is on the south east coast
of the island, about a ten minute drive from the airport of Arricife. The dive school is situated on the beach (see photo) in the horseshoe bay of Playa de la Chica and
entry into the shallow water is very easy.
The school offers a good selection of (very relaxed) dives all year round for all
levels, from beginner to advanced, either from the bay or from the school's hard
boat, moored just a short walk away. And there are no hidden costs! They will organise flights and accommodation, and provide free transport to and from the airport. All round, they offer a really good deal and a thoroughly enjoyable dive
holiday.

Take a look at some of the photos - you'll find Felix the grouper (at about 18m) and a number of beautiful seahorses in much shallower water.

MIXON HOLE - EAST SUSSEX July 2008

A club day out to Mixon Hole. We hired a RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat) and driver
from Wittering Divers(
www.witteringdivers.co.uk). More soon.

Here are a couple of fossil sharks teeth found in Bracklesham Bay on our second dive after Mixon Hole, a drift dive at about 12m. These teeth are about 1m long (no not really !). The excellent web site
www.brackleshamfossils.co.uk is well worth a visit if you are interested in this subject

A photo of the world famous Mixon Hole Crab

Mixon Hole has three huge round stones - projectiles from a Roman catapult which guarded the entrance to a now sunken harbour (allegedly). Or are they
the result of a geological phenomena called “kettle hole erosion” ? One way
to decide is dive it yourself and have a look ?
